My take on Telangana

The revolt for a separate state of Telangana is one of the major problems the state of Andhra Pradesh is facing today. Telangana's separatists say the reason for the movement is the mistreatment Telangana residents who they claim were badly neglected after the formation of Andhra Pradesh. The region of Telangana, it is claimed did not benefit from the overall good performance of the state for many years. Separatists say that the Telangana doesn't have enough colleges and Universities comparatively to other parts of Andhra Pradesh. The rivers which mainly flow through Telangana are mostly used by the regions of Andhra and Rayala Seema. The jobs in Telangana are also mainly taken by the people of other regions. They also claim to have less of a role in the ruling of the state. The Tollywood which produces the most films in India per year, has been dominated by Andhra people and not by Telangana native to its home in Hyderabad.

The separatists are not demanding better governance but for self governance. The general opinion is sceptical that a separate state would bring the development they are striving for. Winning Telangana has become an aspect more of self esteem and emotional rather than growth. Most of Telangana youth are brought up in life with poverty and public suffering. The suicides of youth are ideologically motivated, which has become a serious concern.

Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) was formed by K Chandra Sekar Rao in 2001 after separating from Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for not getting minister ship. It says its main aim is Telangana state formation. It is hard to tell their sincerity in fighting for Telangana but it is easy to tell that they are playing with people emotions by creating hatred towards Andhra people for political gains.

The real issue is not just the state formation but the hatred that is slowly being created by TRS. Even if a separate state forms, there could be lasting problems due to this hatred. Each of Andhra and Telangana are interdependent on each other for many things. Andhra gets all water from Telangana and Telangana need to use the sea ports of Andhra. This might stagnate the growth of both the states in the future.

TRS should understand the love towards Telangana, it should not be a reason to create hatred towards Andhra people. It should strive for Telangana growth and for its resources.

All things considered Andhra Pradesh is suffering from these issues in a massive way. Most of the businesses close for days due to bandhs. Schools and government offices are also closed for these bandhs. Foreign businesses seem to be concerned and wary to invest in Hyderabad. This all has a negative effect on the economy and over all development of Andhra Pradesh.

In this scenario, Sri Krishna commission (A committee formed by government of India to give its directives on the formation the separate state) submitted its report and would be made public on 6th of Jan.
